  • October Meeting - Tuesday 10/4/2011 - Introduction to OData

    Due to some scheduling conflicts, we will be holding our October meeting one week early.  We hope you can attend!

    OData, Open Data Protocol, is a web protocol for querying and updating data over HTTP using open web standards. In this session we will go over the details of how OData facilitates the consumption and publication of data. We will explain OData syntax and definitions. In the end we'll go over how to get started writing your OData service and how to consume open services in your own applications.

    Presenter Bio

    Victor has 10+ years of experience as software architect and developing web applications across multiple industries; from customer facing applications to B2B system integration and data warehousing. In the last few years Victor has focused his energy in the e-Commerce domain and has been recognized in the Microsoft Commerce Server community with a Microsoft MVP award. Victor is an early adopter of technologies and is always looking for innovation while improving business efficiency through software. Victor is currently the Director of E-Commerce at The Vermont Teddy Bear Company (www.vermontteddybear.com) and its sister companies (www.pajamagram.com and www.calyxflowers.com). Prior to that, Victor was the VP of Development at a boutique consulting firm focused in providing E-Commerce services to Internet Retailer's top 500 companies.  His blog can be found at www.victorocastro.com and he welcomes comments/questions at vcastro@gmail.com or through his twitter account @vcastro (twitter.com/vcastro).


  • Techapalooza 2011, Thursday Sept 22 at RPI's EMPAC

    Techapalooza is back!  Tech Valley's premier event technology professionals will be held this year from 5-9 on Thursday Sept 22 at RPI's EMPAC.  You can sign up and get the details at http://www.techapalooza.org/.

    Pre-registration is required. Registration is $10 and you will receive a free drink ticket at the door.  The first 100 attendees the night of the event will receive an official Techapalooza t-shirt.  Free parking will be available in the parking garage.  Also check out the Techapalooza Mobile app.  Written in Flex, it runs on both iOS and Android devices.  TVUG will have a booth - stop by and say hello, hope to see you all there! 

    We are also looking for volunteers to help man the TVUG booth for part of the time.

  • September Meeting, Tuesday 9/13/2011- Lessons learned after implementing Microsoft Team Foundation Server (TFS) 2010

    WERCS recently finished a year-long project implementing Microsoft Team Foundation Server (TFS) 2010 for all developers and testers. This presentation will discuss the lessons learned about adopting the TFS platform in a mid-sized software shop.

    Presenter Bio:

    Geoff is Chief Software Architect at The WERCS Ltd. In Latham, NY and has been with The WERCS for 16 years.

    WERCS (Worldwide Environmental Regulatory Compliance Systems) markets software and services to industrial customers to advance their Global Regulatory Compliance and Sustainability efforts.

    Geoff has participated in the evolution of WERCS from COBOL to Access 2.0 to Visual Basic 6 and finally (?) to ASP.NET and currently oversees the development and testing  teams based in Latham, Mexico and India.
