An Introduction to the ASP.Net MVC Framework

On December 10th 2007, Microsoft released the first technology preview of the Asp.Net MVC Framework. While this framework won't appeal to everyone,for those that do appreciate it, Asp.Net development will never be the same. Gone are the days of complex page lifecycles, viewstate, one page form to rule them all, and windows like event abstractions. Hello to thedays of separation of concern between model, view and controller, clean urls, lean mean html, and RESTfull resources.

We'll examine the why's motivating the mvc framework and discuss how these concerns are addressed. Then we'll walk through the basics of an Asp.Net application and examine how its laid out. Finally, we'll build a sample application using Visual Web Express, the Asp.Net 3.5 Extensions Preview (featuring the ASP.Net Mvc Framework) and the Asp.Net MVC Toolkit (HTML rendering helpers).

Bio:

Scott Stewart is the Chief Technology Officer at iZoca and an independent software developer. He began his technical career in the early 90's while working for the Freihofer Baking company and  served as their Manager of Information Systems through 2001.

In 2001 Mr. Stewart began focusing his career exclusively on web application software development. He has worked as an independent software consultant, a technical lead, and as a software development manager. He has designed, created, and been a lead on a number of successful software projects.
